How Maintain Your Night Vision Device Longevity And Performance

Increase the longevity of your night vision devices with a few tips that will save you money on repair and replacement costs
Regularly Clean the Optics
Dust, smudges, and debris on the lenses can affect the performance of your night vision device and your viewing ability. Use a lens cleaning solution or wipes designed for optical glass to gently clean the lenses. Make sure to use soft cloths when wiping your lens; if possible, blow the lenses with dust-off before wiping to prevent scratches.
Check Mount and Dovetail Interface
Inspect the dovetail interface and helmet mount regularly for wear or damage. Ensure that all connections are tight and secure before each use. If you notice any wobbling or looseness, either tighten or replace the components to maintain stability and performance.
Moisture and Dust Protection
Keep your night vision device in a dustproof and waterproof case when not in use. If possible, store it inside a hard case versus a soft case. Moisture and dust can cause corrosion and damage the internal electronics. Use desiccant packs inside the case to control moisture levels, especially in humid environments.
Secure Helmet Attachments
Use a sturdy, well-fitted helmet mount designed specifically for your night vision device. Make sure the mount is properly attached and that the straps or rails are adjusted for a snug fit. Double-check that the night vision device locks securely into the mount to prevent it from shifting or falling off during movement. Ensure your mounted device is secured with 550 cord or a bungee cord with locking hooks on either end. If your device is stored away in your assault pack, rucksack, etc., ensure the case or bag is attached as well.
Test Battery and Power Connections
Regularly check the battery compartment for corrosion, and clean it as needed. Ensure the battery contacts are clean and tight to prevent intermittent power issues. If your night vision device uses external battery packs, such as those with Fischer connectors, ensure the cables are properly secured and not prone to accidental disconnection.
Maintaining your night vision device and securing it properly will enhance both the longevity and the performance of your equipment.
