The Human Eye And Early Night Vision
Before we can understand the difference between white and green phosphor, we need to understand a bit of history and human biology. Green phosphor was originally developed with green phosphor (you might have even heard the term Gen 1/Generation 1). The reason behind this is in the way the human eye functions. Human eyes contain two types of cells: rods and cones.
Rods work well in low light settings which manage the difference between light and shadow. While cones are responsible for the color input which struggle in low light environments.

The reason for this claim is that it presents a more neutral white and black image that activate more rods in the eye increasing contrast and perception. Additionally it is claimed to be less strain on the eye over longer usage reducing fatigue.

As previously described the human eye sees more shades of green than any other color, while with green phosphor and a darker aperture. When it comes time to flip up your night vision, your eyes will adjust faster to the natural ambient light.
